What is an Environmental Impact Statement?
Document required by the National Environmental Policy Act for large projects that use federal funds.
Provides detailed analysis of probable environmental consequences associated with construction
Includes public involvement at the beginning of the EIS development and throughout the process
Requires coordination with state and federal regulatory agencies
Must be approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)
